The Area

From the Romans to Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry IV, this part of France has a fascinating history. There are many historical monuments to visit from the roman villa at Sevillac to the stunning Bastide towns of the Gers and the many romanesque churches and monasteries. The historic cities of Bordeaux and Toulouse offer the visitor sophisticated shops and restaurants, while a little further afield lie Biarritz, Lourdes and the Pyrenees.

This is a beautiful and lush part of France whose climate is ideal for the vines and sunflowers that abound. Its charm is no less striking in the winter when the landscape can sparkle with frost and people decorate their homes with trees grown on their doorstep. The landscape of the area is rich and varied and there are many opportunities for outdoor activities such as riding, fishing, sailing, canoeing, boat trips on the river Baise, swimming and tennis.

This is the heart of gastronomic France and it is impossible not to be tempted by the stunning food markets and their locally produced fruit, vegetables, cheeses and charcuterie. The patisseries are equally irresistable and all this can be washed down with a good Buzet or a fine Bordeaux.
